Not posted lately

I know that I have not been posting much well I was working hard on trying to bring a full Xfce-4.6.2 desktop to MyWolfe well I could but it would not be fully stable and working desktop to many file problems that I am not able to fix. One of them involved a kernel driver that when I followed the changes in the script I could no longer but up the kernel would hang. So I am taking a lot of the updated libs that I made and putting them into MyWolfe-022. I am planing on moving over to Firefox 3.6.13 does anybody have anything else that they think is of importance.

3rd operating system

I just read a press release by Google about there new Chrome OS notebook. In there statement they were explaining how it was time for a change and that the Chrome OS was for those that do most of there work on the internet. And then this

Chrome marks a departure from traditional operating systems, such as Mac OSX and Windows, by targeting users who spend most of their time on the web.
"We think cloud computing will define computing as we know it," said Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive officer.
"Finally there is a viable third choice for an operating system."
So what is Linux, yes I know we are only a small % of all the computers out there using Linux but to not count us as a OS that is just wrong. Then there is BSD, UNIX and a few more but that just burned my butt to think with them making there google-chrome for Linux and having there service work with Linux browsers and all that they would go and forget us.

I did in sfs form because it is 99.2 megs in size. If you are running MyWolfe-021 you will need to install the following for it to work.

fribidi-glx-1.2.pet
libsdl-glx-1.2.pet
SDL_net-1.2.7.pet

Other MyWolfe or puppy version will need

SDL-1.2.14-w5.pet

LibraOffice 3.3-b3

I have not kept up with the changing times so this caught me off guard. So I have put together all the files necessary for libraoffice to run on MyWolfe-021. This version that I have put together is for i586 so it will not run on older computers if there is a call for the older version I will take the time to put one to together. I did not put in all the language packages for each was about 18 megs each so if you need a language package I will download it and put it up for you. You can download it for here LibraOffice3.3-b3_21.sfs.

MyWolfe 021 is ready for download

I had to upload it to sourcforge first for I was unable to get it uploaded to Google-code so you can download it here MyWolfe-021

Release notes

I would like to let everybody know that MyWolfe-021 is now ready for download. This has a lot of under the hood upgrades of the libs; of the most noted the gtk+, glib and glibc. I have changed the desk top back to the puppy style with all the setup and config menus at the top. I have turned the background back over to rox. Now that the background change is working and my idea for trying to make a better puplet did not work out the way I planed, you can have a better way to set up the back ground. With this come back the auto mounting of rox with the items showing up on the desktop in the lower left hand corner. I have left only two icons the trash can and the lock screen on the desktop, the wbar is still there and fadded so as not to be distracting.

I will have to say that Gimp is no longer in MyWolfe I was unable to keep it stable so for the time being it is out.

I have also put in the libs needed by chrome to be able to use the google-phone plugin.

Just to let everybody know it still has the 2.6.34.1 kernel the 1.7.1 xserver and the 7.3 Xorg.

Multi save files

This is to let you all know of the success and failures of trying to create a program to create additional save files. I was thinking why reinvent the wheel to coin a phrase, so that being the first part of my plan and looked at how BarryK was making the save files in the first place. In the shutdown script is all that you need to start work on a program to make additional save files. Or so I thought, yes I did have some success making a new save files and even got it to format to 3fs format. That is where things started going wrong for I was unable to get MyWolfe to boot off of that save file. I even change the original one to wolfsave.bak thinking that I could then boot off of the new one and get things going that way. NO luck, what I am thinking is that the last part of BarryK shutdown script writes the temp save file to the new save file and that in turns identifies it as a true save file. I have not found a way to write that info yet and the drawback is that it would be the same as the old one. But then it would be changeable.

The next best thing I could come up with for now is if you still have the CD of the MyWolfe install then boot up with it and when the boot screen get to boot parameters type in "puppy pfix=ram" without the quites. Then locate the dir your old save files is in and change it to wolfsave.bak. Then boot off of your hard drive and set the root password and video settings and then save it but the most important thing is to be sure and give it a personalize name to it. That way it would look like this wolfsave-personalizedname.3fs. By doing this you will each have your own root password and if you use encryption that too will be a personalized password. I have tested this an have two save files and each has it own root password and one is encrypted and that too works.

By doing this  you can have your system the way you want it and have it load up what sfs that you need and others and have there own desktop with there own background  and sounds. If you have any trouble understanding this let me know and I will try and help

Starting MyWolfe-021

I have started looking into getting things going on building MyWolfe-021 but I am waiting until I see enough updates or changes to make it worth peoples time to download and upgrade there system. I have seen that BarryK has the 2.6.35.7 kernel and this is not enough to warrant a upgrade so I was also looking into adding Audacity sound editor and recorder. I would like to know if any of you have anything you feel that MyWolfe is missing that would be of use. I will point out that I do not have a office suite in MyWolfe by design. That is because I see that a lot of people put in Open office and that is just to big to be part of a set distro at this time. One other thing I am trying to get working is a way to simply make a new save file so that there can be multipliable save file so that each member of a family can have there own save file and even password protect it, if the is something that will be of use to users of MyWolfe let me know I will try and have it in 21.

Any feedback will be helpful.

Souce updated to MyWolfe-020

If you really want to know what files are in the working copy of MyWolfe-020 you can look in the hidden file under root ./packages and you will find a file named woof-installed-packages. Or you can now goto my Google-code site and look under the source tab and look at all the files there. You may also do a subversion download  of it without logging in but you had best be on a fast download. Here is a link to the source tab google-code.

MyWolfe-020

This is the start of a new login for MyWolfe. Much thanks to Pizzagood for making the script for this to work. When running the first time you will be asked to create a root login password. This is going to allow those who like to do a full install to be able to keep other people from running there system without their knowledge. I also feel that this is good for everyone else as well to be able to secure their system.

issue tracking

Hi puppy fans

I read a post that they would file a issue at my primary site at Google code but that they did not have a Google account and did not want to create one. I can fully understand his or her reason. So I would like it if you do not have a Google account to post any problems your having with MyWolfe here on my blog or you can goto the puppy forms and post there. I am sorry for this inconvenience and I did try and see if there was a way around it but Google is afraid of spam being a big problem.

Record downloads

I am prod to announce that I have set a new record for MyWolfe downloads. As near as I can confirm I have hit 700 downloads as of Aug. 19, 2010. This is making keeping updating MyWolfe feel more fulfilling. Just to let everybody know I am working on MyWolfe-20 will mostly be updated packages and one new that I know of at this time. If anybody has any suggestions as to what they would like to see in MyWolfe-20 let me know.

Puppy Security

I am not sure if anybody running MyWolfe is worried about online security but I decided to look into online security and found that if you are running with the fire wall running you have a secure system. You can verify this by going grc.com and about half way down the page you will see shield up to check out your presents on the net. When I tested it it showed that I had green lights all across the test which made me feel good I brought this up because I was thinking of putting in a root password program to change it or maybe doing multiuser puplet but as I found out it may be a lot of work with out a need. So if you have any comments on this matter please post here.
