3rd operating system

I just read a press release by Google about there new Chrome OS notebook. In there statement they were explaining how it was time for a change and that the Chrome OS was for those that do most of there work on the internet. And then this

Chrome marks a departure from traditional operating systems, such as Mac OSX and Windows, by targeting users who spend most of their time on the web.
"We think cloud computing will define computing as we know it," said Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive officer.
"Finally there is a viable third choice for an operating system."
So what is Linux, yes I know we are only a small % of all the computers out there using Linux but to not count us as a OS that is just wrong. Then there is BSD, UNIX and a few more but that just burned my butt to think with them making there google-chrome for Linux and having there service work with Linux browsers and all that they would go and forget us.

  1. There has been criticism over ChromeOS. The dependency on "cloud computing" locks down the OS as badly as the app store does for Apple's computing devices.

I think Linux is still treated as an "underground" OS, but, hey, I'm 57 and I promote it everywhere I go.

And I want the "freedom" that adding what I want to my Linux is far more satisfying than taking whatever Google decides to give.

And for what it's worth, Mac users know there's some of that BSD under the hood.
